About Me

I am a mother of two. On weekdays, I always accompany my kids to school before going to work. On regular school days, I am mainly responsible for breakfast and dinner for my family. I am not a skillfull cook but I advocate eating at home. This is far more healthy and economic than dinning out. Therefore it's my habit to buy fresh ingredients for dinner after work. Anything simple and nutritious is my choice. As my daughter has eczema problem, we have to watch our diet carefully. From our experience and doctor's advice, we should avoid any seafood (particularly shrimp, crab, lobster, squid, shell fish, etc), duck, goose, beef, mushroom, heavy seasoned, spicy and deep fried food. So what's left are pork, chicken, fish, vegetables, and all other 'mild' food.

For a Chinese family like us, soup is something that we consider as part of our diet to regulate our internal organs. When it comes a dry weather, we would prepare somthing that can moisturize our body such as pears or snow ear fungus. There are numerous Chinese herbs we use when boiling soup that serve different curing purposes. Boiling time varies from less than an hour to a few hours. We don't have to have soup everyday but it's common to have it at least 3 to 4 times a week.

To ensure my family have a balance diet, I would normally have meat, vegetables and fish in each meal. We tend to have a bowl of soup before and during meal and some pieces of fruit after meal. The ways of cooking are mainly steam, shallow fry, grill and boil.

On weekends, I'll either turn to my husband or go something 'wild' - such as dinning out or having some junk food!
